Kathy Stevens is a qualified Social Worker who has spent her lengthy career working with families and children in a variety of settings. In the mid 1990's, prompted by a lack of resources to support and enhance her work with families she began to devise her own, firmly believing that creative approaches are the key to effective communication. Where the then 'home made' resources prove to be successful, both from a practitioner and service user perspective, she set about developing them into a resource that other practitioners and families could benefit from using. Practitioners from a range of professions now use the resources, collectively known as 'Interactive Solutions' to support their work.
I don't think I could do my job now if I didn't have the Needs Jigsaw, it is a fantastic tool.
Parenting Assessments are much more effective using the Jigsaw, I have never worked with a parent who didn't like it. When we went to Court, I got commended on my report and the judge was really interested in the Needs Jigsaw!
The Feelings Dolls were key to a 10 year old adopted child being able to explain why she had become quiet and withdrawn!
I was a bit wary of using Connections at first, but I was really surprised and pleased how much they helped [client] to see the impact of her son's experiences on his behaviour, there were lots of light bulb moments going on! I use it now to do eco maps – and I love it.
I run groups for young men and use the Bags of Feelings figures to help them to look at emotional literacy and regulating their behaviour.
Lets Sort it Cards are great and easy to have with you, I like to use them when things are a bit chaotic and fuzzy and they help to clarify the main issues.
